Visiting Mom and Going Out for Dinner

Okay I've vented. Now I'll be more positive. Today I awoke at 6 a.m. to get lesson plans and grades done. Then three hours later I fell asleep. I visited Mom at the home, and she was doing so well. Gosh, how I miss Mom! She was in happy spirits and that rubbed off on me. She made me burst out laughing when a youngish man walked by and she remarked on how good-looking he was. It was funny because so many people had been walking back and forth, but for some reason, that person caught her eye. She still has her spunk.

We played Chalupa, and then Leigh stopped by to visit with us for a bit. Later, we left , and Leigh took me out to a nice seafood restaurant. Yeah, he spoilt me. Now, I'm at home and I'll be logging off to go watch "That 70's Show". I love to watch that when I can. It's humorous.

Another Week Has Gone By....

I can't remember anything memorable about Monday, yet on Tuesday, I got a pile of more work to do (an online training that I needed to get done by Friday). Grrr...Wednesday and Thursday were days of endless meetings and tutorials since we're being FORCED to tutor. And Friday was a workday for our grade level since we needed to get lesson plans, copies,etc...done for the upcoming six weeks semester. I was very annoyed since I wasn't allowed to make copies for my group. The dementor (yeah, I read too much of Harry Potter but it's the perfect word to use for her since she sucks the happiness and life out of everyone she gets in contact with!) made me go back to the meeting room to be with my group who were doing soooooo much without me. However, when I arrived there (extremely nettled by this point), the main discussion was on the subject of tattoos. Hmmm....tattoos are subject matter of the curriculum?!? I'm missing out on prepping for the upcoming weeks for this nonsense?!? Plus, the dementor had someone complete what I was doing in the workroom. However, that turned out to be chaotic since the copies weren't collated and stapled, instead there were fifty copies of each individual page. Grrr.

It shouldn't bother me, but it did. I hate having someone second guess what we're doing. Had I been on the phone or been doing something I shouldn't have been then I understand that I would have been in the wrong. But I believe that D is just on a power trip.

The style of both artists is so distinct, however, the message is the same: Chin Up and Keep on Breathing---inhale and exhale as you go through your trials. This too shall pass. Now, I just need to believe it!

Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Yeah, I know----more skulls and skeletal figures. However, since today is still part of Dia de los Muertos, I thought it would be fitting to mention in in our blog. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a time in Mexico when the Monarch butterflies migrate from the U.S.. It is believed that the butterflies bear the spirits of the departed. And this time is more of a remembrance and rejoicing time, rather than a time for mourning. A procession travels through the village, and on November 1st, the families construct an altar with photos of those who have departed along with food, candles, fruit, and candy. On the following day, the family goes to the cemetery to clean up their loved one's gravesite. The area is raked, scrubbed, and arranged with food and candles. Music (from the radio or live mariachi music) is also played at this time. The family spends the night at the gravesite.To me, it sounds like it gives the people a way to reconnect with people they miss through reminiscing about the past, and one of these days, I would hope to visit Mexico during this time frame. It's an event that has many influences from the Aztecs, especially in the belief that the spirits of the departed would come back in the form of hummingbirds and butterflies.

After school, I stopped by to vote early for the Presidential Elections!!! Once this task was completed, Leigh and I had to go out of town to get my rings examined (something we have to do every 6 mos. to keep up-to-date with maintenance). Well, it was an eye-opener for me because first of all, I saw that the kiddos in the city trick or treat at the mall of all places! And that seemed a bit strange but I guess it's safer so that's not too bad. The shocker of it all was seeing how some parents were dressed. Wearing something that looks like it came from the pages of a lingerie shop is in VERY BAD TASTE, especially when you're in an area where families are. There is a time and a place for things, and the mall isn't one of them. Plus, what message does that send out to the children (not to mention the teenagers!!!)? Call me prudish, but I wouldn't want my child to see photos of that time period, especially if I am wearing some tarty outfit. It's not good. And it's not good to expose kiddos to that either. The longer they can keep their innocence, the better, I say!

The Week in a Nutshell

Monday was waiver day for us, and Tuesday was a regular day. As for Wednesday, I was off since Leigh had an appointment in the valley. Then on Thursday the announcements were made for the door decorating contest----our class won 1st Place!!!! So, on Friday, we had a regular day for the a.m. but then after lunch and p.e., it was MOVIE TIMEEEE! Woohoooo! It was a nice change of pace for the kiddos since we were able to watch a movie on Halloween. Yipeee.

Oh yes, in my class today, I had the following characters: Hanna Montana (blond wig and all), a half devil/half angel, a witch, two brides, a fifties girl, a football player, a hunter, Cinderella, the grim reaper, and a gothic girl. Yes, it was a tad bit crazy today, but gosh, I love Halloween!
