Getting Ready for Another Six Weeks Term....

Today was a day full of paperwork. We worked on perusing our lessons for the upcoming six weeks term , and we started making copies of everything we need for the next grade period. Now, all I need to do is find photos of churches, buildings, grain elevators,etc... since in Social Studies we will be examing the physical environment (both man-made and natural). Sounds like I'm going to be busy trying to accumulate all of these photos.

Here's one that caught my eye...it's located in Ireland.

Cat-in-the-Box

It's been a long day, but it's what I expected it to be. I didn't get home till after 6 p.m., and even then I hadn't completed all that I needed to do for tomorrow. I'm still lacking a few things, but hopefully I'll do so after Boston Legal. Yes, one has to draw the line somewhere..lol. Blame it on Denny Crane...haha. Anyway, I am off to watch tv but I wanted to share some pics of Theo, who can be so cute and fuzzy and then exasperating at times with his antics. He is full of love when he grows sleepy and wants cuddly comfort, yet when he is wide awake, he wreaks havoc on everyone and everything. Broken candleholders, flying potted plants, and my scattered paperwork are prime examples of his jaunts around the house. Arghhhh...lol! Never a dull moment!

Off to Bed

I'm off to bed...early to rise tomorrow morning! I'm back to work, and it's going to be an ultra-busy day getting back into the swing of things after being out due to getting ill last week. Hope everyone has a great night and has an even better start to the week.

Sunday

Today was a blur...seems as if the entire day was only seconds long. Life seems like that more and more often that it's scary. Leigh got me this really cool alarm clock for my iPhone. Plus, he spoilt me with a Gipsy Kings cd I had been searching for as well as a program so I can learn how to speak Italian. To top this off, he bought me the new "Sex and the City" dvd to cheer me up since I had been a bit blue for missing out on the Bayfest festivities.

When we got home, Leigh worked on eliminating the weeds from our front yard while I did the laundry. Then it was time for the season premiere of "Desperate Housewives", a show that I am simply addicted to. I was glued to the television for that entire hour..lol. The only other tv program that makes me so joyful is "Boston Legal", which I think is so witty and entertaining thanks to the awesome actors and genius writers for that show.

At the moment, Leigh has been called out to do some work, and it's been like this for the majority of our weekends. This is the fourth job that he's had to complete while other individuals just sit on their laurels during the weekends, which isn't fair (in my opinion). Okay, I'm venting...not good. Let's just say that I think EVERYONE should shoulder some of the responsibilities, and it shouldn't fall on ONE person I deeply care about!!!! I do know that Leigh is a hard worker, and I love that about him. I just believe that the responsibilities of being on call should be evened out and not skewed. Ok...end of subject.

Last Monday was the beginning of Autumn (Fall). Now, down here in our area the leaves don't turn beautiful colors. They just go from green to blah-brown. However, I love this photo that I stumbled upon on the internet. Isn't it gorgeous?

Seven Veils

Since August 25th, we have been working on using veils in Belly Dance class. The first time I wore them, I thought I was going to get strangled. (Yes, I do have a thing about having anything around my neck---even turtlenecks ! So this discomfort is helping me deal with that phobia..lol). For the Dance of the Seven Veils, we are adorned with 7 veils, and we are currently learning the choreography to a beautiful song. Leigh bought me some beautiful veils in vibrant colors. Each veil is supposed to represent something that we don't like about our inner selves. It's made me ponder and reflect on myself. I have a few characteristics that I grapple with on a daily basis, but I am still trying to rank them from least to greatest. As for the origin of Salome and the Seven Veils, I've tried researching the tale, and so far, I have more questions that have sprouted than answers. What I have discovered is that Oscar Wilde did use Salome and her dance of the Seven Veils in a play. But other than finding out some Biblical information of Salome, Herod, and John the Baptist, I am back to square one. It seems as if this tale is purely from a mythical origin.

The Frailty of Life

I love to blog and work has taken up so much of my time lately. I am going to try and not let it consume my life too much. Life's too short to not live it fully. Hurricane Ike is a prime example of that. Before you know it, life happens, and so many people affected by this destructive force of nature are doing their best to bring life back to some sort of normalcy. Here is a site where the pictures are worth a thousand words. They're full of emotion, but we've decided to place the link here so that all could see what damages were caused by this hurricane. Here's the link: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/09/the_short_but_eventful_life_of.html Our prayers are with the families dealing with this ordeal.

A few days of being a hermit

I had been at home for the past three days since I got ill on Thursday. I went to the dr's and after waiting for about 3 hours, I finally saw him and got a prescription for some medicine. Seems that I got a bacterial infection due to something I ate. Plus, I ended up losing 12 lbs in the process! I'm happy about the lost weight, but not about how it happened..lol. Not good being ill.
